IQNA – Palm Bay Councilman Chandler Langevin is under intense public scrutiny following controversial remarks he made about Muslims in America on social media.

His comments, posted in response to State Senator Randy Fine on X, have sparked widespread outrage among residents, community leaders, and local organizations, according to Fox News.

In his post, Langevin wrote, “…Islam exists for the sole purpose of conquering Christendom and ending Jewish people as well, and they do not belong in this great nation.” The statement quickly drew sharp criticism, with many calling it Islamophobic and divisive.

During a recent city council meeting, numerous speakers condemned Langevin’s remarks. "That’s the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard, especially out of a local commissioner," said Kristine, a Palm Bay resident.

Another speaker, David, added, "This is appalling to read these kinds of comments from a councilmember in Palm Bay, Florida." Others described the comments as "dangerous" and "un-American."

Fatima Saied, executive director of the Muslim Women’s Organization, also criticized Langevin’s statement, highlighting the harm such rhetoric causes. "When people say things like that, it really undermines some incredible work to build bridges and build relationships," she said. "It is exhausting to have to justify my right to exist in my home."

Responding to the backlash, however, Langevin did not make any apology or correction; rather he stood by his statements. “Anybody that respects our constitutional republic has a place in this nation,” he said in an interview, adding, “you have to believe in our Constitution to be here.”
